Peter Case
30th anniversary expanded edition of his classic debut! “If this record doesn’t sell a million copies, I quit the business.†So said producer T Bone Burnett in spring of 1896 while listening to a playback of Peter Case, the former Plimsouls leader’s solo debut. While it didn’t reach those heights – (and T Bone luckily didn’t quit the business) – the album is not only an essential chapter in Case’s catalog, but is revered by everyone who has heard it. It’s time to hear it again. Helmed by J. Henry (T Bone) Burnett and Mitchell Froom, who would become two of the world’s most sought-after producers, and featuring players including Mike Campbell, John Hiatt, Jim Keltner, Roger McGuinn, Jerry Moratta, Van Dyke Parks, Jerry Scheff, and Victoria Williams, Peter Case includes 11 originals and a cover of The Pogues’ “Pair Of Brown Eyes†– recorded before their version and after Elvis Costello secured permission from the band, who he was producing at the time. Peter Case has become a classic, and its sound and feel a template for singer-songwriters and what we now call Americana. This 30th anniversary edition features not only the remastered original 12 track album, but 7 bonus tracks: 2 from a 1986 promotional EP and 5 previously unissued recordings. The packaging includes a new essay from Case about the album and unseen photos from the time period. After taking us on a trip down HWY 62 last year, find out where the journey began on Peter Case.
