Phoenetic Gongyo: Using American Spelling for Easier Learning
For many english speakers, learning gongyo can be very difficult. The pronunciation is completely different from the english language and the spacing does not reflect where the pauses should be. In this version, I did my best to render gongyo into American english to help the new practitioner. For instance, "jin" in regular gongyo is often pronounced like "gin" (the drink), instead of how it should be pronounced, which is "jean" (the article of clothing). In this version, I spell it like "jean" to help the native (American) english speaker. This book is written from the perspective of "accentless" American english, like you would see on the nightly news (of course, there is no such thing as "accentless", but you get what I mean). For those who already know gongyo, it will seem very strange! But as you read it carefully with those you are introducing to the practice, you should see that it helps with more accurate pronunciation. I hope that writing gongyo this way will help those who are new to it to learn it better.
