National Geographic Kids Guide to Photography: Tips & Tricks on How to Be a Great Photographer From the Pros & Your Pals at My Shot
Photography for Kids outlines the principles of photography, guiding the uninitiated as they discover the joys of the medium.
This book is specifically geared for kids from 7 to 16 years of age, but it will appeal to beginning photographers of all ages. It presumes the reader has only a rudimentary understanding of the subject matter. More importantly, it presumes the reader has only basic equipment to work with.
The younger reader may need an adult nearby to assist with some of the reading, but care has been taken to define a word at first use; and a glossary is included that defines words in the context used within the book.
It is written in a casual style and emphasizes principles of composition, keeping technical details to a minimum. The author has selected stunning photographs from his own collection to emphasize the points he makes along the way.
This book uses the “Socratic Method,†pausing to ask questions for readers to answer for themselves. Sometimes the questions are left for the reader to answer, sometimes Phil gives his own point of view in an appendix. This allows readers to form their own opinion, then compare with the author’s point of view.
The author was inspired to write this book while on an outing with two of his granddaughters when one of them asked if there were any books on photography that she could read.
Well, there certainly is now!.
