Indelible Grace I
But as you begin to listen more closely, you will notice something very different. That difference is the lyrics. For these aren’t the sloppy, slack-jawed one-liners of contemporary pop, but the formal structured lyrics of the hymnal, some of the best poetry of the ages, refashioned into a thoroughly modern sound. We have the likes of Cowper, Newton, Watts, Lyte, Gadsby, Wordsworth, and Redhead shouldering their way into the room in lumberjack shirts and wool caps.
The Christ Community College Ministry has accomplished something truly remarkable in this sequel to Indelible Grace, bringing new life to old songs, and the meld of traditional lyrics and new music has something to please everyone, both those who hunger for innovation in worship music and those who prefer the richness of hymnal language. Taste is a very personal thing, and the quality of music presented in these fourteen songs is consistently high, but I will risk naming a few favorites—Thy Mercy My God,†“What Wondrous Love Is This,†and the closing song, “On Jordan’s Stormy Banks I Stand.†By the time the refrain of the last song, I am bound for the promised land,†comes around, my bags are packed and I’m ready to go. --Worship Leader magazine, Fall 2001
