Plays the Stripper
Recorded in 1958 and eventually released four years later, The Stripper has become one of the most widely recognised pieces of music around. Even its release had an air of mystery about it; MGM, Rose's record company, wanted to release Ebb Tide as a single but couldn't locate a flip side, so instructed an office boy to look through a pile of unreleased recordings to find something suitable. The piece selected was The Stripper, which quickly became the top side once radio had got hold of it and went on to top the US chart. The success of the single quickly prompted the release of a similarly themed album.
