Polymer Clay Celtic Dragon: Sculpt a Fantasy Bead
This little guy is the Celtic Forest Dragon. He looks pretty fancy, but I specialize in taking the stress and intimidation out of learning to sculpt. I’ll take you step-by-step through the process of creating your very own dragon. You’ll see how you can tackle a complex design using simple shapes and a logical progression of which tasks to do first. I think you’ll be amazed at what you can create. At least this is what the students say in my live classes!
Hi, I’m Molly. When I started sculpting about 15 years ago, there were few really good tutorials out there. The projects were either designed for the kind of experts who could chisel Michelangelo’s David out of marble, or they were cutesy, folksy, and overly simplistic projects that were not the kind of thing I wanted to make. I wanted to create projects that were more like three dimensional illustrations than what I was seeing out there. Sheer stubbornness and a lot of cursing eventually led me to develop the skills to sculpt what I wanted to build. Now with YouTube, the Kindle, and blogs there are is so much more available to teach sculpting than I had when I started! But some of the same issues I faced are still there today. As I talked to other beginning sculptors in my live classes, many of them had the same frustrations I had with the projects out there. So I set out to create simple, logical, easy to follow instructions that will have you creating the kind of projects you want to make. You’ll make wonderful things more quickly than you thought you could!
In this Celtic Dragon project you will learn:
• How to use three shapes to create anatomical detail.
• How to use the shapes to make tiny details.
• The logic of what to sculpt first to save yourself frustration.
• A bunch of dragon facts and stories to inspire you.
• How to turn your project into a piece of wearable art.
• And more!
