It was the heady days of the late 1970's and marijuana smuggling from Colombia to South Florida was at its pinnacle. The War on Drugs was in its infancy and Port Everglades in Ft. Lauderdale was the prime entry point for the smugglers. Through the early to mid 1970's, there had been an evolution of smuggling organizations from Donald Steinberg to Black Tuna to "Big Ed" Hindelang to Joe Pegg. Known affectionately as Pegleg, Joe Pegg had grown his empire into a 50 boat armada with hundreds of employees. The Broward County authorities had heard rumors on the street of this 50 boat armada but it seemed too big to be believable. During one 12-month period in 1979-80, Pegleg and his Navy imported over 1.2 million pounds of pot into South Florida, the largest amount ever by any group in a 12-month period. This is the true story of one man's journey from West Point Military Academy to the Miami Dolphins Ticket Office to an Admiral in the Navy of Pegleg. It is a story of love, friendship, respect, betrayal, and ultimately of redemption. This is Pot Smugglers: 5 East of the Light.
