A rogue dwarf planet slams into the moon causing a massive firestorm of debris and a chain reaction of deadly disasters that kill almost every living thing on Earth. The last known survivors in America are Alex and Jessa Jacks, their teenage son, Deuce, their dog and a small group of humans from diverse backgrounds who make their way to Lake Tahoe, California. Virtually all of their animal protein food resources are gone. They are forced to fight for basic survival amid Stone Age conditions, rapid, catastrophic climate change and global geologic upheaval.
