From 1970 to 1985, the West African supergroup Les Ambassadeurs literally defined a genre of African music and achieved a level of global success that has rarely been equaled by any 'world music' band. They gave birth to a new sound, inspired by the hopes and dreams of post-Independence West Africa. Blending elements from salsa, jazz, soul, rock 'n' roll and the ancient art of the griots, the music of Les Ambassadeurs became a source of pride in West Africa, and placed African music firmly in the consciousness of music lovers everywhere. A recent live concert reunion of Les Ambassadeurs was a huge success, and this four track EP is a warm-up for the band's new full-length album, due in 2016.
