Resonance: Elise and other Bal-A-Vis-X Stories
Bal-A-Vis-X is a series of 200 Balance / Auditory / Vision Exercises, all deeply rooted in rhythm. Individual exercises range from toss/catching one sandbag to bounce/catching four racquetballs in sequence. Partner exercises may require six balls to be in motion with accompanying feet patterns. Exercises address visual tracking deficits, auditory imprecision, impulsivity, balance and anxiety issues. Bal-A-Vis-X enables the mind-body system to experience the symmetrical flow of a pendulum. It engenders focus. In group settings the exercises demand cooperation, promote self-challenge, foster peer teaching. All exercises can become increasingly complex OR increasingly modified for severe special needs. ---- My first book, Bal-A-Vis-X: Balance / Auditory / Vision eXercises for Brain and Brain-Body Integration (2001 / Second Edition 2014) tells the story of the development of Bal-A-Vis-X ... from trial and error experiments in one Wichita grade one classroom in the '80s to become, gradually, precise exercises with 7th graders in the '90s.
