Aurora Orchestra, together with rising conductor Nicholas Collon, is one of the most innovative, energetic and talented ensembles in the world today, earning effusive praise from top critics and quickly establishing itself as one of the most significant new chamber orchestras in a generation.
For "Road Trip", their first album with Warner Classics, Aurora has chosen an American-themed program which takes a musical journey across the country, with Aaron Coplan'ds bucolic "Appalachian Spring", Charles Ives' shimmering "The Houstatonic at Stockbridge" from his "Three Places in New England", and John Adams' monumental, irrepressibly kinetic "Chamber Symphony". Interspersed throughout the program are three newly-commissioned song arrangements by young US-based composer Nico Muhly - two traditional songs along with the Paul Simon classic "Hearts and Bones". US-based singer/songwriters Sam Amidon and Dawn Landes will contribute vocals to these songs.
