Rock 'n' Roll Girls: The Rockin' and Swinging Girls of the 50's
This CD set proves that it wasn't only guys like Elvis Presley, Buddy Holly, Little Richard and Chuck Berry who were able to make rock & roll records. Admittedly, during the 1950s, the time wasn't quite ripe for the emancipated rock & roll girls, which makes listening to their efforts today even more called for - unjustly, hardly anyone took any notice of the girls during their own day. This CD set boasts an explosive mixture of female artists and provides adequate proof of the fact that the fairer sex was also quite capable of rocking the house. Alongside famous ladies like Wanda Jackson and Brenda Lee, listeners can "discover" totally unknown singers whose songs are also to be relished - and some of today's established stars, such as Dolly Parton and Jackie DeShannon, set out on their careers with a surprisingly rocky sound. All-in-all, of the tracks featured on this unique compilation, some 70% are veritable rare and precious gems from the "girls" rock & roll era.
