This Uncle Sam bobblehead is part of Royal Bobbles' collection of historic figures. The actual origin of Uncle Sam is unclear, but many believe that the name Uncle Sam refers to Samuel Wilson who supplied meat rations to soldiers during the War of 1812. Although this is a legend, it's the most likely explanation. Since his creation, Uncle Sam has been used to personify the United States and its government on posters, in songs, and even in literature. He didn't gain widespread recognition until his face was plastered everywhere on posters that were meant to help recruit soldiers during World War I. The iconic image of Uncle Sam pointing and saying "I want you for the US Army" was based on the British recruitment poster with someone doing a similar pose. Uncle Sam appeared on the cover of Leslie's Weekly, a popular magazine in 1916. At one point in time, German intelligence used the codename "Samland" to refer to the United States. There are 2 statues in the United States that were created to honor Uncle Sam. The first shows Samuel Wilson (Uncle Sam's possible namesake) and is called the Uncle Sam Memorial Statue, and the second statue is a memorial. This bobblehead shows Uncle Sam in his iconic red, white, and blue suit. He has his white beard and patriotic hat and is pointing at his audience as he does in the recruitment posters. All Royal Bobbles bobbleheads are about 8" tall and are made from highest quality, heavyweight polyresin. Each bobblehead is hand painted, making each one unique. Each Royal Bobbles product comes with its own unique serial number on the bottom of the base to indicate authenticity.
