SHIMANO SLX RD-M7000 Rear Derailleur

After spending its entire life in the shadows of the luminous XTR and XT drivetrains, SLX received an extensive overhaul for 2016 that raises the bar of its workhorse capabilities. Still accessible to the self-sponsored cyclist, SLX now offers 11-speed capability and sleek graphics, elevating its standards above what this mid-range groupset has previously known. As one of the key players, the SLX RD-M7000 Rear Derailleur comes with a 41-teeth capacity and the option to be setup one-by or with a double crankset, with a more streamlined design just begging to be set up on your new terrain-gobbling trail bike. Trickle-down technology didn't just stop at 11-speed. For the first time, SLX was also granted coveted Shadow RD+ distinction, which results in greater chain stability due to the addition of the Shadow stabilizing switch. The switch limits movement of the derailleur cage, thereby lessening the likelihood of mid-ride chain drops. Over time, you'll be able to adjust the clutch tension to keep the cage in-place as normal wear-and-tear runs its course, so you don't suffer a decrease in functionality. Shimano also improved shift quality on the RD-M7000, tweaking the derailleur's design to result in shifts that are 20% easier to initiate than before. We know -- trying to gauge a 20% drop in effort when you're steering your trail bike up a succession of spiraling switchbacks is almost impossible. We'd prefer to ride assured that each gear drop on a climb and quick upshift heading into a descent will happen easier and more precisely than ever.
