With the recent trends leaning heavily towards one-by simplicity, rumors of a 12-speed cassette cog have been swirling for some time. SRAM is first to the game with its revolutionary Eagle drivetrains, and the XX1 Eagle 12-Speed GXP Direct Mount Crankset plays an integral part in rocking the trail with a new range of gears and a sparkle of golden flair. Building on the OG X-Sync chainring's storied chain retention ability, Eagle's X-Sync 2 chainring ups the ante with claims of even better chain control. As with the original, each tooth is CNC-machined to support the chain's inner- and outer-links and provide a variable thickness from tooth-to-tooth, so the chain and chainring effectively lock together as you pedal. Where each tooth took on a boxy profile in the original version, Eagle's chainring boasts aggressively profiled teeth to grab the chain and fend of mud for smooth, friction-free function. SRAM utilizes its Carbon Tuned technology to build the XX1 Eagle arms with a specific carbon layup that reduces weight while increasing stiffness and durability. Their hollow construction results in a light, responsive platform that lets you dance on the pedals and power through all manner of terrain. The direct-mount chainring interface also affords the option of quickly subbing different ring sizes for different courses, giving the true all-mountain racer a bit of start-line flexibility to adapt to a given trail.
