â€œIS COLONEL Sheppard with you?â€

â€œNo.â€ Sam wondered if she looked as perplexed as she sounded.

â€œHeâ€™s not back?â€

â€œNo.â€ Woolseyâ€™s face was drawn. â€œWe havenâ€™t heard a word from any of the team. Nothing.â€ His voice sharpened. â€œI thought they were to return with you.â€

Sam shook her head. â€œThat was the original plan, but we had trouble getting in close enough to beam them out. I had a radio message from Sheppard that indicated they had been beamed aboard Toddâ€™s hive ship. I thought theyâ€™d be back by now.â€

â€œNo,â€ Woolsey said. â€œWe donâ€™t know anything.â€

Sam blew out a breath. If Todd were holding them prisoner theyâ€™d be getting demands any time now. But that was less likely, given that Teyla was still masquerading as his queen. â€œItâ€™s possible that the hive ship also took some battle damage,â€ she said. â€œThat may be more of a priority than getting to a gate and reporting in.â€

A twitch of Woolseyâ€™s eyebrows showed what he thought of Sheppardâ€™s enthusiasm for immediately reaching a gate and reporting in. â€œDid they recover Dr. McKay?â€

â€œI donâ€™t know,â€ Sam said. â€œThere was a lot of interference on the radio. Sheppard said they were aboard Toddâ€™s ship, but I donâ€™t know if they had McKay with them or not.â€ She shook her head. â€œIf not, heâ€™s dead. Queen Deathâ€™s hive ship exploded. There would have been no survivorsâ€¦â€
