Our saga begins with an assassination attempt on Adam Lauchman’s father, Radim. It’s late April 2012, in Prague, and sixteen-year-old Adam receives a late-night phone call from the police. His father, a popular Vltava River ferryboat owner, involved in reviving the fame of the Czech Saint John of Nepomuk, has just been hit by a sharpshooter’s bullet. Who would want to murder a devout Catholic, and why? These are the questions Adam tries to answer. The questions that, he believes, might save his father´s life, who is left comatose after the attack. With Adam, who searches for answers and motives of the perpetrators, the reader might quietly brood over the existence or non-existence of God or a need or uselessness of the faith.
