Places to go while you are in Sarasota, Florida from the book:
Siesta Key Beach Siesta Key has been rated in the top 10 best beaches in the world for the past 10 years. The sand is so soft, it feels as if you are walking on powder. There are volleyball nets, grills to have a cookout, and a pavilion where you can grab a bite to eat. You can rent umbrellas while you are out on the beach soaking up the sun. On Sunday nights they have a drum circle, where a lot of people bring drums and other instruments to play music until sundown.
Island Park-Marina Jacks Island Park is a great place to bring the family. It’s right on the water and it is beautiful. During the day there are fountains for the kids to play in, and a playground right next to the fountains. If you have a bike, it’s a great place to bike around. It’s even fun to just walk around and hang out under the banyan trees and sit on the bench swings.
St. Armand’s Circle St Armand’s is a big circle full of different restaurants and shops. It is a great place to walk around; here there are a few different places to get ice cream, so grab an ice cream cone and walk around the Circle. There are shops that are expensive, but then there are also shops that are inexpensive. I enjoy going to a restaurant called Shore Diner. It is beautiful inside and the food is outstanding. On Sunday mornings they have a really good brunch; they also have a DJ playing music to enjoy while you are eating.
Burns Court Burns Court in Sarasota is a great place to visit as well. There is so much history connected with Burns Court; Owen Burns is responsible for much of the development in downtown Sarasota and Burn’s Court (hence the name), he owned most of Sarasota. Visit Owen’s Fish Camp, an awesome restaurant in an older house that Owen Burns actually lived in and built in 1910. It is hands down the most popular restaurant in Sarasota. They are always busy; not only is the ambiance great, but they have the best food, from southern-style dishes to wonderful fresh seafood.
