Schubert: Piano Sonatas Nos.13 & 21, Impromptu D899 No.4

The fourth release in Praga's Richter Edition, which features SACD remasters of classic albums by the great Russian pianist Sviatoslav Richter, features reissues of Schubert studio recordings from the 60s and 70s. Repertoire on the disc ranges from the Piano Sonata No.21 from 1828, which is considered a musical contemplation on mortality, to the sunny, lyrical and buoyant Piano Sonata No.13 from 1819, clearly written by a man in love. Appropriately, the major/minor juxtapositions of the Impromptu Op.90 No.4 divides these two emotionally disparate masterworks.
