With this release, harmonia mundi inaugurates a trilogy of recordings that will eventually comprise the complete concertos and piano trios of Robert Schumann. The instigators of the project, violinist Isabelle Faust, pianist Alexander Melnikov and cellist Jean-Guihen Queyras, champion these compositions with deep conviction and a choice of instruments that restores the delicate transparency and subtlety of their textures. The first volume brings together two late and unjustly neglected works, the Violin Concerto and the Piano Trio No.3. Faust is accompanied in the concerto by the Freiburger Barockorchester led by Pablo Heras-Casado.
