An unpublished manuscript threatens to ignite a scandal that could obliterate a small Catholic school on the Jersey Shore. Private investigator Riley King is tasked by an alluring female literary agent to find the author, who vanished shortly after submitting the work. Complicating matters is the menacing interference of the school's chief benefactor, a local businessman with suspected mob ties.

"Something of the Night" is Richard Neer's first novel featuring detective Riley King and his talk radio ally Rick Stone, as they investigate crime along the eastern seaboard.
His work of non-fiction entitled "FM, the Rise and Fall of Rock Radio", (Villard 2001),is the true story of how corporate interests destroyed a medium that millions grew up cherishing.
Neer has worked in important roles both on and off the air at two of the most prestigious and groundbreaking radio stations in history---the progressive rocker WNEW-FM for almost thirty years, and the nation's first full time sports talker, WFAN over the past twenty eight.
The follow-up to "Something of the Night", entitled "The Master Builders" was released in May of 2016.
He currently is in the final stages of preparing his next novel, "The Punch List", featuring the same protagonists.
