His accomplishments as a producer have long been surpassed, most notably by George Martin, but for a long, long time Norrie Paramor was the producer with the Midas touch. He produced Britains very first Rock & Roll record (Tony Crombie) and racked up a huge number of number one hits by the likes of Cliff Richard, The Shadows, Eddie Calvert, Helen Shapiro and Frank Ifield, among others. Yet whilst his productions were at the forefront of British popular music, he also maintained a dual career as one of the leading easy listening bandleaders of his generation. His best known album is undoubtedly In London In Love, after which his success as a producer tended to overshadow his own recording exploits, but Staged For Stereo was a return to former glories.
