Written as a suite to women, Donald Byrd's Street Lady integrated the soulful grooves of its predecessor, Blackbyrd, with Byrd's signature tone and melodic brilliance. Recorded in '73, this album perpetuated Byrd as the leader in the "fusion" of R&B and jazz. Street Lady features the legendary rhythm section of David T. Walker (guitar), Chuck Rainey (bass) and Harvey Mason (drums), who were among the most requested studio musicians of the day.
