The character, Michelle, made assumptions about her marriage that did not allow her to see the infidelity coming. To further complicate the relationship, one relies on faith in God, while the other still vacillates as to the existence or not of a higher power.
Do the children find out? Does the character, Jim, continue to see the other woman? Why does someone who is not sure about their faith agree to see a pastor? Will they make it?
Greene uses an autobiographical approach to show the reader what lies on the other side of such a breach of trust.
