Chris Marker (1921â€“2012) was a celebrated French documentary film director, writer and photographer, best known for his films La JetÃ©e, A Grin Without a Cat and Sans Soleil. He was described by fellow filmmaker Alain Resnais as â€œthe prototype of the 21st-century man.â€ In this highly original book, Adam Bartosâ€™ exquisite photographs of Markerâ€™s studio, a workspace both extraordinarily cluttered and highly organized, appear alongside a moving reminiscence of his friend by the film theorist, Godard biographer and practitioner Colin MacCabe.
