The Sukhoi Su-35S (Cy-35C) was developed from the Sukhoi Su-27 air superiority fighter/interceptor as a 4th ++ Multifunctional Super-Manoeuvrable fighter for service with the Russian Federation Air Force, entering service in 2014. In the middle of the first decade of the 21st Century, the Su-35S was born out of the ashes of the original canard-tri-plane Su-35 program that fell by the wayside in the early 2000’s. The enormous advancements in technology over the past few dacades led to the current Su-35S being a far more capable aircraft than its forebear, benefitting from technologies being developed for 5th generation combat aircraft. The modest number of Su-35S ordered means the aircraft will supplement rather than supplant the legacy Su-27 as the Russian Federation Air Force awaits the introduction of a 5th generation fighter in the shape of the Sukhoi PAK FA (Perspektivniy Aviacionniy Complex Frontovoi Aviacii). This volune covers the Su-35S program from conception to operational service, describing the aircraft, systems and weapons, flight testing and initial service. All technical information about the aircraft, systems and weapons comes from manufacturers documentation.
