Survive (A Megan Patterson Trilogy Book 1)
Fearing for her life, Megan Patterson flees into the rugged mountains, of eastern Kentucky, to elude her pursers. It doesn’t work. The FBI wants her for murder and attempted murder and are determined to take her dead or alive. Al Qaeda is after revenge and will not stop until they kill her. To Megan, nothing is more important than trying to “SURVIVE†when everyone wants you to die..
A strong pulse of fear over comes me when I hear the men gaining on me. They are getting closer with each passing second. Pushing myself to go faster, I try to run but within less than three yards a burst of intense pain explodes from the wound on my thigh. It takes my breath away forcing me to slow to a fast walk.
The loud crack of a rifle startles me. Instinctively I tuck my head down onto my shoulders. The round sizzles past my ear. They have found me! Soon the forest around is alive with the sound of buzzing bees.
Bark and leaves rain down all around me like confetti at a parade. Resigned to the fact that I will be unable to outrun the men I drop to ground behind the trunk of a fallen tree. As I place my sights on the first man I see, I slowly squeeze the trigger. The rifle recoils against my shoulder. The man grabs his shoulder and drops out of sight.
Please let these men be al-Qaeda and not the FBI. Wiping the sweat off my face with the sleeve of my shirt I take aim at the next man I see. This time I aim for his legs. Squeezing the trigger, the man grabs his thigh and cries out in pain as he tumbles to the ground.
When no one else appears I struggle to my feet and dash to my left before anyone else sees me. There is a chance that they will think I went in the direction I previously had gone. Crawling into a thicket of thorn bushes I hunker down to wait.
Hearing a noise I look up in time to see seven or eight men spread across my vision passing by my hiding spot at a cautious pace. They are followed by the two wounded men and a third man helping them.
When they are at a safe distance I leave the cover of the thicket and follow them. I am determined to find the answer to why everyone is trying to killing me. But most of all I want to survive.
