Guy Davis comes from a show-biz family. He is the son of the late actor Ossie Davis and actress Ruby Dee, though he decided to go into roots music instead of the theater as his parents had done. He plays guitar, banjo, mandolin, and harmonica. "Sweetheart Like You" is a good example of what a contemporary "traditional blues" album can be, expansive new interpretations of old songs and classics of the blues genre, and excellent new compositions. This album includes the Muddy waters classic "Can't Be Satisfied" played on the banjo, and a compelling new song "Words To My Mama's Song" on which Davis's son Martial Davis joins in with vocal percussion and rap.
