Digitally remastered two-fer from the Soul/Gospel legends containing two albums plus bonus tracks. From Chicago, Illinois, The Staple Singers started blending Gospel and R&B in 1948, a combination considered profane in some quarters at the time. Driven by Roebuck Pops Staples' stark, Delta-infused guitar style awash in eerie reverb (his tremolo-laden electric guitar lines created a haunting sound that was like no other) and given a laser-like urgency by Mavis Staples' amazing singing, their early recordings are balanced right at the juncture between Country-Blues and Gospel. This release features the Staples' first two LPs, originally issued on the Vee Jay label: Swing Low Sweet Chariot (1961), and Uncloudy Day (1959). Both masterpieces have been packaged together in this very special collector's edition, which also includes six bonus tracks from the same period. These fabulous recordings helped define The Staple Singers as one of the all-time-great cornerstones of Folk-rooted Gospel and Soul. Soul Jam.
