The Heidelberg Symphony produces idiomatic performances of these immortal symphonies with a unique and judicious blend of modern and period instruments, demonstrating that Haydn's music--like all great historic music--must dwell both in the past and present to be viable. Thomas Fey, born in 1960, studied piano and conducting at the High School for Music at Heidelberg-Mannheim. He was a student of Nikolaus Harnoncourt from 1988 to 1991 at the Salzburg Mozarteum, and also studied under Leonard Bernstein.
