An excerpt from the article: I own an inexpensive “Plain Janeâ€, M4 type AR-15 carbine that I built out of various name brand parts. The lower receiver is a very well made Charles Daly receiver with a DPMS lower receiver parts kit installed. The upper receiver is a DSA ZM4 Forged 7075T6 A3 AR15. I only paid $275 for the upper receiver plus the cost of the bolt carrier group (another $150). This little carbine epitomizes the “no-frillsâ€, “bang aroundâ€, “not afraid to hurt itâ€, AR-15 firearm. It cost me less than $800 to build and she shoots like a dream. I have wanted for some time now to make some inexpensive yet practical upgrades to make the carbine serve my special age driven needs. It has a flat top receiver and the picatinny rail is not long enough to allow both my favorite MBUS Magpul back-up sight and the EOTech 512 holographic sight to be installed at the same time (Figure 2). I have found the older I get the more red-dot type optics are not a nicety, but a necessity. My eyes are just not what they used to be and the optics help me shoot like a younger man. I decided to embark on an upgrade project and I decided to go with a theme. All of the parts would be of the Magpul MOE product line.
