Tailor Made
Liner Notes by Alex Henderson Re-Mastered using the Original Master Tapes by Sean Brennan, at Battery Studio s New York Tailor Made sees Bobbi Humphrey not just shifting labels to Epic, but also changing her musical direction. This 1977 album is a shift from the high class jazz-funk work that the Mizell brothers created for her at Blue Note, and this is the her first album where Bobbi has taken musical control. Humphrey s decided to go down a mellower route but left in the addition of a few disco tracks for good measure. On Tailor Made she dived head first into what would be popular and very record buying public friendly album. This album is full of lush symphonic strings, funky bass lines and a full force of backing vocals, everything that related to the mid-to-late 70 s soul and jazz. Unlike a lot of musicians who were drawing on commercialism and disco as influences at the time, this album really works. One of the many things Bobbi Humphrey was good at was surrounding herself with class writers, musicians, producers, etc. Tailor Made was developed very tastefully. As with all her albums the flute playing is truly sublime, the production is amazing, the musicianship is faultless and this woman really was a class act.
