The album also includes Sir John's Funeral Ikos, the Great Canon of St. Andrew of Crete and a performance of The Lamb conducted by the composer. This is widely regarded as the finest recording of Ikon of Light. The work was commissioned by The Tallis Scholars and the composer attended the recording sessions. The work evolved from the close friendship of John Tavener and Peter Phillips which continued until the composer's untimely death in November last year.
