Learn to Swim: Teaching You to Teach Your Child to Swim
This book includes exercises in water safety and a complete swimming course. Aimed at parents with children from as young as three months to ten years.
Graduated exercises for Babies and Toddlers (3-18 months), Pre-school (18 months to 5) and Schoolchildren (5 to 10 years). Please note that the book does not contain illustrations.
The author is a qualified Life Coach and Swimming Teacher who specialises in teaching beginners, both adults and children. She currently teaches three classes of children aged 5-10. She has observed how powerful empowering the learner actually is. She has been humbled by suddenly seeing students overcome their fears and taking off.
Parents need to be water confident to use this book but not necessarily swimmers in the early stages. To improve your own swimming, read Learn to Swim: Even if You are Terrified. It is important not to communicate your own fears to a child. Later exercises require you to swim alongside your child.
Fear has no place here, neither does blame or criticism.
Michele says, "seeing the joy on a non-swimmer's face, when they complete their first width, is like drinking the finest champagne."
