This mighty tugboat is a replica of the 1967 Texaco Tire Chief which was built to serve Texaco's operations in New York harbor.Built by Jakobson Shipyard in Oyster Bay,Long Island,and measured 100 feet in length,a 26 foot beam, and powered by diesels rated at 1600 brake horsepower for maximum performance under pressure.The Texaco Fire Chief was built to the highest specifications of the AMERICAN BUREAU of SHIPPING and was equipped with state of the art navigation devices for the time,including radar and radiotelephone.The tug carried a crew of 8.
