The Atonement Between God and Man
Many things today are termed "The Battle of Armageddon," but this phrase specially belongs to the Bible and can only properly be used or understood in its Biblical context a context which traces the marshalling of all human institutions, be they social, political, financial or religious, in preparation for the last great battle on earth.
The Battle of Armageddon, written more than a century ago, provides both the Scriptural and historical background of the "controversy" which the Lord has with the nations of earth. It reviews the record of evil and oppression which leads to the indictment and the sentence to "destruction" of all human institutions not in harmony with the establishment of God's kingdom of truth and righteousness.
God permits the Millennial dawn to come upon the world gradually. As people are awakened from the ignorance of the past, they do not consider the Lord or acknowledge his grace in connection with the blessings of the past, present and future. Mankind, in recent history, has had many times as much wealth as was created during the six thousand years preceding. The improved conditions of all people in civilized lands, the shortening of the hours of labor, etc., are offset by greater knowledge and a discontent which comes as a result.
In other words, the increase of knowledge is responsible for the increase of discontent and fear which are bringing Armageddon upon the whole world. How glad we are that man's extremity in this Time of Trouble will be the Lord's opportunity! He is wiching to pour out upon mankind the blessings of the Millennial Kingdom for their uplift out of sin and death sonditions back to the image and likeness of God. He foreknows that they must first have their lessons.
The Battle of Armageddon describes in detail:
• The judgment and destruction of symbolic Babylon.
• The necessity and justice of the Day of Vengeance.
• The assembling of the nations.
• The cries of the reapers.
• Our Lord's great prophecy (Matthew 24).
• The establishment of Christ's Kingdom.
