This collection of interestingly-told stories by Arland O. Fiske gives the reader an opportunity to learn of a great many worth-while things about Norwegians from the ancient time to the present. A format such as this, with short, concise stories, makes it possible for one to pick up the book for a few minutes and be rewarded with a wealth of information served in a delightful manner. Such exposure to a wide variety of topics about people, places, traditions and history of Norway can very well whet the readers appetitee for a more indepth study of this remarkable Land of the Midnight Sun. Mr. Fiske has conveniently arranged these stories in chronological order in three sections: Ancient and Medieval; Immigration Period; and Norway and Norwegians Today. His dedicated research tells us of persons and events of great renown as well as those whose footsteps through the pages of history have not been so well recorded. As we think about who we are, it is well to consider where we have come from. In doing so, we can better appreciate those forebearers in their struggles, their accomplishments, their sorrows and how they enjoyed life. The Best Of The Norwegian Heritage is a book that spans the ages as well as the continents. - Sigurd Lindland, General Manager, Norwegian Showcase, EPCOT Center, Orlando, Florida
