The Birds of Southwest Ecuador is a 5 CD publication presenting almost 1000 separately announced recordings of 235 species. It includes the voices of all the birds typical of western and Interandean Ecuador. Our goal is to achieve a high degree of completeness, not only including song repertoires but also a wide variety of calls for each species. The habitats covered are diverse and range from desert, desert scrub and dry forest to humid forest and also include lakes, marshes, salt ponds, sandy beaches and mangroves. Included are a large number of species and subspecies confined to the important "Tumbesian Endemic Area" which expends from southwestern Ecuador to northwestern Peru and is home to many threatened birds. This CD set is part of a series that will eventually cover all major life zones in Ecuador, one of the richest avifaunas in the world.
