The Bloody Irish
Shrink-wrapped
The Bloody Irish is a unique musical production that celebrates an extraordinary revolution. Specially filmed for PBS, the show combines historical narrative, spectacular staging and well-known and well-loved songs of Ireland with a story that captures the attention and tugs at the heartstrings.
Set in Dublin during the Easter rising of 1916, the event that set the match to the fire of Irish freedom and forged the Ireland of today, The Bloody Irish uses rousing tunes like The Foggy Dew, The Minstrel Boy, The Rocky Road to Dublin and The Tricolored Ribbon to illustrate the mindset of those who fought in the rising and the Dublin civilians who hunkered down and endured it with gallows humor.
Written by musician/writer Barry Devlin and with orchestration, arrangements and original pieces by the celebrated David Downes (Riverdance, Celtic Woman) The Bloody Irish is produced by Ned O Hanlon (veteran of many U2 and Celtic Woman specials) and directed by multi-award winner Michael Barker Caven.
