This collection of novellas centers around the town and inhabitants of Cranford and forms the basis for the recent BBC mini-series of the same name. The first novella, "Cranford", was first published in 1851 as a serial in a magazine. Next is "Mr. Harrison's Confession" about a young doctor who has recently come to town and is involved in many humorous misunderstandings. "My Lady Ludlow", written in 1858, is set before the other two novellas. It recounts the daily lives of widowed Lady Ludlow and the spinster Miss Galindo.
