The Darkest Thread (The Flint K-9 Search And Rescue Mysteries Book 1)
For fans of John Connolly, Nevada Barr, and dogs of all shape and size, the first novel in the new Flint K-9 Search and Rescue Mysteries, from the author of the USA Today-bestselling Erin Solomon Mysteries.
Meet Jamie Flint -- a no-nonsense veteran K-9 trainer and handler with a 'gift' she'd be happy to return: like her dogs, Jamie can sense things the rest of the world is blind to.
When teenage sisters go missing in the mysterious 'Bennington Triangle' of Vermont, an area renowned for its disappearances, and strange occurrences over the past hundred years, FBI agent Jack Juarez brings Jamie and her dog Phantom in to assist with the search. When Jack learns that the case shares haunting similarities with the murders of the missing girls' aunts ten years before, he realizes they're dealing with much more than two girls who simply wandered off the beaten path. And when a young girl appears in the shadows, visible to Jamie alone, it becomes clear that something is desperately wrong here.Â
AUTHOR Q&A
Q. In what ways is Jamie Flint different fromthe main character in your other series, Erin Solomon? A. Jamie and Erin arevery different beasts, to be sure. Where Erin is impulsive and oftenself-centered, Jamie is...well, a mom. Of necessity, I think the fact that shehad her son Bear at such a young age forced Jamie to grow up quickly, and tothink a little more cogently about the possible long-term impact of heractions. She's level headed most of the time (though that gets muddied a bit inTHE DARKEST THREAD, when Bear's life is in danger), more private than Erin, andcertainly a more spiritual woman.Â
Q. Will this series contain cliffhanger endings and a serialized mystery like the Erin Solomon novels? A. No. While I think there's a definite place for serialized novels, and I actually have a 3-book serial in mind for Diggs and Solomon down the road, the Jamie Flint novels will all be standalone mysteries.Â
Q. Do I have to read the Erin Solomon Mysteries to know what's happening in THE DARKEST THREAD? A. Not at all. There are references to happenings in the Erin Solomon mysteries because Erin Solomon and Jamie Flint live in the same world, but you'll get the information you need to know about Jamie and Jack Juarez in this book. At the end, of course, if you would like to know more about these two characters, you can always go back and check out that series.Â
Q. In which Erin Solomon books does Jamie Flint appear? A. Jamie first arrives on the scene in book two, SINS OF THE FATHER. She returns in books four and five, BEFORE THE AFTER and THE BOOK OF J.Â
