The Elders of Israel and the Constitution
The purpose of this work is to set forth the basic principles of the American free constitutional system. Knowledge of these principles is essential to make right political decisions. Without such knowledge one can only flounder, making hit or miss decisions, knowing neither what to aim at nor whether one's decisions are right or wrong. In considering what are correct principles of the Constitution, the standard used in this work is the intent of the Framers. This standard is used because it is the belief of the author that the Framers acted under inspiration in designing the American constitutional system. The principal dangers to the Constitution are also discussed. Latter-day Saints regard the Constitution as a part of their religion and are charged with the responsibility of upholding it. They must understand its principles and the dangers threatening it lest they give the Constitution lip service while they unwittingly assist in its destruction. It is the author's belief that the Latter-day Saints will play a vital part in preserving the Constitution - if it is preserved. Consequently this work is addressed especially to them and contains many references to Church doctrines as well as quotations of statements by men whom the Latter-day Saints regard as prophets. It is hoped that the information contained in this work will be helpful and encouraging to all who truly cherish freedom
