But before she ever steps one foot out of London an old fortune teller, a Hag, warns her of the curse. Never one to accept such ludicrous beliefs Catherine arrives at Highcliff to find a locked tower that no-one has entered in more than a century. Most of the villagers are afraid of her, and both the live-in care taker and housekeeper exhibit strange behaviour, and will not spend a night there while the heir is at home. Refusing to be driven out, Catherine experiences dreadful visions; while paranormal activity increases to terrifying levels. What do the caretaker and the housekeeper know about Highcliff? Why is the house strewn with herbs? Is there a really a curse associated with the Hall? When the unearthly visions turn deadly, Catherine is plunged into a lethal confrontation with supernatural forces.  To save her soul, she must uncover the connections between ghastly events of the present and the past, and discover the origins of macabre episodes and tortured spirits that continue to plague Highcliff Hall.
