"The Herbal How-To Handbook" was written for people who have an interest in herbal medicine and who are ready to take their knowledge to the next level. You'll discover how to blend teas, make herbal extracts, infuse herbal oils, make your own DIY herbal supplements, and much more - all using the amazing and powerful plants provided by nature.Â
How I Became An Herbalist and How You Can, Too To give you a little background, I started my herbal journey by falling down on my ass! I broke my tailbone falling off an ice-covered staircase. At this point in my life I was far away from everything natural. I was having severe migraines that lasted three days every week or so. I had a very uncomfortable case of eczema all over my legs. I was drinking and smoking and eating terribly.
But this fall off the stairs triggered something - because the doctors could do nothing to ease my pain, it's not like you can put a sling on the old buttocks. Nothing helped with the pain until my sister recommended an herbal poultice using Comfrey. I was ready to try anything at that point it was so bad, and the thing is, the Comfrey worked. I felt immediate relief and healed very quickly thereafter.
This experience lead me to a little shop called the Purple Shutter Herbs in Burlington, Vermont. It's closed now, but it was there that I signed up for my first herbal class: How To Make A Tincture. From then on, I was on a mission to learn as much as I could about herbal medicine - I just loved it!!
A few years later I was enrolled in Rosemary Gladstar's Herbal Certification program taught by Roseanna Rich of Indian Meadow Herbals in Eastbrook, Maine. It was an intensive 18-month course and I loved every minute of it. We learned all the medicinal properties of herbs and how to identify wild herbs and grow organic herbs. We were shown all manners of herbal remedies and how to make them. We even made herbal soap the old-fashioned way (hint: lots of stirring).Â
How Herbalism Made My Life Better Since those early herbal lessons, I've learned how to naturally prevent my own Migraines and I now live 100% eczema-free. And most importantly, I've discovered that herbal medicine provides us all with a way to get back to nature
