Today's man has no rites of passage. No initiation. No language for it. His only models are hyper-macho stereotypes and bravado men. He has rare few elders and may be fatherless. Even more, he faces a culture that is increasingly hostile to the idea of gender.
The Heroic Path is an experiential, rites of passage guide for men who are seeking the wild masculine, for women to help them understand men, and for moms who are raising boys.
Our quest for initiation is an ancient one, a mythical one. It is timeless and true in mythology, and the One True Myth. Our way to the wild masculine follows the windtrails of Jesus, as he moved from carpenter into Messiah, leaving the village, going under water, into wilderness and then back to the village to save it.
These eternal rhythms are our steps into manhood. It begins with severance - leaving the village, the vox populi, and mom. We head under water, and are identified with the Father and empowered by the Spirit. Then we are led by the Spirit into the desert to be confronted by Something Awful, where our identity is tested. Â Then we, like Christ, return to the village and give our lives for it. These are our steps, this is our heroic path.Â
