Out of the pit and onto the turntable, Washington DC based quintet Darkest HourÊ¼s latest release The Human Romance reaffirms the bands place in the upper echelon of American metal music.Â

15 years and 7 albums in the making, The Human Romance is certainly the most complex album from the band to date. Combining driving thrash riffs with screamed gravel vocals the band retains the brutal heaviness it brought to Ozzfest in 2004 and combines it with the melancholic melodies and amazing guitar solos of their Victory Records albums to create what many consider to be the bands masterpiece.

Beyond the collision of metal and hardcore that the band is known for, this album extends even further into the emotion of what the band is looking for in creating music, using more subtle atmospheric sounds to add yet another dimension to the bands already well-hewn sound. The clean full-bodied production makes it easy to hear every ferocious power chord and feel each hit of the double bassdrum. With most of Darkest HourÊ¼s contemporaries having fallen by the wayside and their influences dead and buried, the band continues to outdo themselves with each release. They have evolved, grown and become more mature, but have never forgotten where they came from.
