This author is largely responsible for creating and maintaining interest in New Jersey folklore and history by virtue of the series of books he wrote. This book, the Jersey Midlands, was originally published in 1939 under the title Fare to Midlands, recording Henry Beck's journeys to the old landmarks of central New Jersey. This reissue brings these histories and legends of New Jersey to life. Sadly, some of the villages he discusses have succumbed to freeways and change, although some gems remain to delight. This book is copiously illustrated with pictures of people and old houses.
