A note from the author The Land of the Dead is the fourth book in the It’s not Over series, however it is also a stand-alone novel. It is not necessary to have read the other three books. Feel free to read this book first. To get some background information on Gary, Alyce, Sally, Charlie, Betty, Tom, Duke and Lady and how they all ended up at the mountain cabin above Worthington, I hope you will give the first three books a try. If you have already read the first three books, I Thank You and I hope you enjoy The Land of the Dead.
The Land of the Dead When the Zombie Apocalypse came, those that had survived the first wave of the dead looked for a place to hide until this madness passed. What had happened was insanity. It was impossible to believe something like this could have ever happened. It was even more unbelievable to think that this would last. After all, mankind had always found a way to survive and overcome. All we had to do was hang on for a few weeks and life would return to normal. Someone would figure this out and fix it. If by some fluke mankind didn’t figure out something, then we would all be saved by divine intervention. In War of the Worlds, when mankind was slow to stop the Martians, the common cold virus destroyed the Martians before they could seriously harm mankind. We would all be fine, all we had to do was hang on and wait. A few days passed. It shouldn’t be much longer now. A few weeks passed. Maybe in the spring this will be over. It was now a year later. If any remaining survivors had not realized it by now, they soon would. There would be no returning to life as usual. Anyone who was still alive now lived in the land of the dead.
Gary and his small group of survivors were trying to hold out in a small hunting cabin in the mountains above Worthington, Pennsylvania. They all had hoped to ride out the storm and make a life for themselves in the mountains until things changed. Eddie, Rose and little Katie had taken a different approach to survive the craziness. They ran, staying one step ahead of the dead. They focused on surviving one day at a time until the day would come when they would be able to just go home. Which strategy was the best? Each strategy had its good points. However there was one problem with each approach – They didn’t work.
It is now almost one year after the start of the Zombie Apocalypse. The paths of the two groups briefly cross as they both realize everything is not going to turn out like they had hoped. In fact, for most of them, it wasn’t going to work out at all.
