The Last Town #4: Fighting the Dead
A new miniseries set in the time of THE GATHERING DEAD! This is a serial, with each release consisting of approximately 25,000 words or approximately 70 pages. *THESE ARE NOT NOVELS.*
As the defenses are established and the small California desert town of Single Tree is effectively cut off from the rest of the country, the zombie apocalypse is in full swing. Major metropolitan areas are either overrun by the dead, or are threatened by the teeming hordes that are beginning to migrate across the nation.
But billionaire Barry Corbett's hope of converting Single Tree into a small island of safety is threatened by a group of escaped convicts on one hand, and the hostile group of citizens led by town council member Hector Aguilar, who see Corbett's actions as a right-wing attempt at secession. Another pain point: the insufferably self-righteous British broadcaster Jock Sinclair, who is now "documenting" Corbett's "crimes against humanity" for sealing off the town from potential evacuees. As all of this happens, two massive groups of stenches pick their way through the desert, feasting on the columns of halted traffic that lead right to the town's newly-erected gates.
In Los Angeles, LAPD Detective III Reese, Patrol Sergeant Bates, a mix of cops, National Guardsmen, and civilians are on the run after Cedar-Sinai Hospital and the LAPD's Hollywood Station fall to the dead. Less than one step ahead of the carnivorous ghouls which pursue them, the two police officers must somehow lead their group to safety through the gathering hordes of hungry corpses.
