The planet of Leda has for decades been home to a large number of colonists from Earth. They have built almost a hundred colonies, and are rapidly developing the planet, although they are plagued with tensions between factions loyal to different Earth powers.

One day, a signal is received from an incoming spaceship. It has come from the planet of Hera, and it has arrived to establish Heran colonies on Leda. The Herans are the descendants of human expeditions to their own planet, and they are known for having established a society based on female supremacy. Not much more is known to the Ledans about the newcomers, however.
We follow the Ledans as they experience contact with the Herans and their societal order during the first years following the arrival of the Herans. While some are fascinated by the Herans, others are horrified to see a society that has reduced its entire male population to slaves.
